The high-intensity ultraviolet lamp inside the ozone generator simulates the sun’s ultraviolet rays that produce ozone. Some of the oxygen is converted to ozone as it passes through the ultraviolet chamber of the ozone generator. Ozone can also be produced by chemical and electrolytic reactions.
The generated ozone is then passed to a diffuser which creates bubbles and saturates them with ozone. These ozone-saturated bubbles are then mixed with water in a water purification tank to separate weaker oxygen molecules in the ozone and combine with any organic molecules present in the water. When such oxygen molecules are attached to organic substances, oxidation occurs and the substances become other substances, resulting in pure, clean drinking water.
Water purified by ozone is now free of protozoa, fungi, bacteria and bacteria and is safe for human consumption. Ozone water purification accounts for more than 90% of the world’s purified water. Most bottled water is treated with ozone. There is a new trend that some swimming pool companies have begun to use ozone water purification instead of the traditionally used chlorine because it has fewer undesirable side effects.
